Parks Canada had asked Gary and Joanie to organize a trip along the proposed Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area to help in the final push for its approval and they suggested that WREAF's 2007 main expedition could do the job. The journey was covered by Canadian media and Prime Minister Stephen Harper met with the McGuffins and others in Nipigon, Ontario on October 25, 2007 for the dedication of Canada's fourth NMCA; the largest protected expanse of fresh water in the world.
